Our wine

Located on a clay-limestone plateau so typical of Saint-Emilion, Clos Saint-Martin reaps all the benefits of its exceptionally sunny aspect.

While the different grape varieties – Merlot (80%), Cabernet Franc (15%) and Cabernet Sauvignon (5%) – thrive in this natural environment, we can afford the luxury of time to allow nature to take its course.

“Every year, weather permitting, Clos Saint-Martin
produces some 5,000 bottles.

To prevent the soils becoming compacted, horsepower has replaced the tractor. Not only do horses allow much more precision in the vineyard, they also bring a touch of magic to the already picture-postcard scene.

At harvest-time, we pick only the ripest grapes, leaving the rest to soak up the last rays of summer until at their peak.”

And for even greater precision, we have opted for fermenting directly in barrel and earthenware vessels.

This gentle extraction, which involves regularly rotating the barrels, softens the tannins, while preserving the freshness of the fruit and the mineral dimension of the soils.

In this way, each one of the 5,000 bottles crafted reveal all the subtlety and complexity of an outstanding wine.
